We Settle It: West Hartford Signal Cameras Not Catching Speeders

Is Big Brother watching you through cameras at West Hartford intersections? Not likely.

The new traffic lights are an effort to update antiquated lights, and the cameras are a more efficient way to monitor when vehicles and bicycles approach a signal. For now the video signal only travels to a computer at each intersection.

West Hartford didn’t have to spend a penny for the upgrade. The city received more than $7 million from the federal government to make the switch.

Many of the lights are currently up, the remainder will be finished this fall.
