West Hartford Libraries Introduce Dual Language Kits

Learning to read English when another language is spoken at home can be difficult for children. Given how important early literacy is to a child’s success as an adult, the West Hartford Public Libraries decided to take action by creating dual language kits.

Librarian Jane Breen hatched the idea for the kits, which contain books, DVDs, and CDs in both English and another language.

Breen was honored this spring by the Connecticut Library Association for her work developing the program.

This looks like a great program. I had a French roommate once who used to watch TV with the captioning on so she could connect the words so it makes sense that hearing and seeing the words together could help with learning!
