Starting Saturday, November 14th, your fingers will have to do some additional walking to make a local call.

The Connecticut Department of Public Utility Control announced that all calls will require an area code to be completed – even if being made within the same town. This dialing procedure was activated on May 16th, and is now mandatory to complete a call. Three digit services, such as emergency calls on 911 will be unaffected.

The change in dialing procedures was initiated because Connecticut is about to receive two new 'overlay' area codes. Starting on December 12th, telephone providers in Connecticut will begin offering phone numbers in the 475 area code for communities within the current 203 area code, and 959 in areas served by the 860 area code. Your existing number will not change.
