West Hartford Police to Step up Holiday Drunk Driving Enforcement

It’s the holiday season, and that means, celebrations, reunions, wine and eggnog. And for the West Hartford police, it also means stepping up DUI enforcement.

The Moving Wall in West Hartford June 17th – June 20th

The Moving Wall, the half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will be on display 24 hours a day on the front lawn of West Hartford Town Hall, 50 South Main Street, from Thursday, June 17 through Monday, June 20.

A candlelight vigil will take place Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 8:30 PM. A POW / MIA & closing ceremony takes place on Sunday, June 20, 2010 at 7 PM.

Harris Comes Up Short at Democratic Convention, Plans Primary

State Sen. Jonathan Harris of West Hartford, Conn., lost his bid Saturday for the Democratic nomination for Secretary of the State, but says he plans to challenge nominee Denise Merrill of Mansfield, the former state House Majority Leader.

“Once on This Island” Opens at Conard This Weekend

For more than 50 years the music program at Conard High School has brought sheet music to life, providing students with the chance to sing, dance and act in full stage productions.

This year is no exception. Conard’s production “Once on this Island” opens Friday night.

West Hartford’s Kristi Luetjen is Connecticut’s Teacher of the Year

At Whiting Lane elementary school, kindergarten teacher Kristi Luetjen has something to celebrate. She is Connecticut’s 2010 Teacher of the Year.

Kristi was named West Hartford’s Teacher of the Year this past spring. Education commissioner Mark McQuillan honored her as the state winner at a Whiting Lane assembly on October 14th. Many teachers and students dressed in purple, her favorite color.

President Obama Addresses Students in West Hartford and Across the Nation

President Obama was at Wakefield High School in Arlington, VA today to urge students to do their best this year.

The White House had hoped all American students would watch the address live, but some school districts restricted student’s access at school due to concerns the message would be political.

LocalOnlineNews.TV visited one West Hartford Public School to hear the President’s speech as well as get feedback from students.

Healthcare Debate Rages in West Hartford

A loud and boisterous crowd gathered at the West Hartford Town Hall last night as Congressman John Larson held a town hall meeting on healthcare reform. The Congressman discussed why he’s in favor of the proposed reforms and gave the hundreds gathered the opportunity to share their opinions as well.

LocalOnlineNews.tv’s Anna Stonestreet was there and had a chance to speak with the Congressman and proponents and opponents of the bill.

Pooches Take a Plunge at Kennedy Pool

Monday was the last day the Kennedy Pool on Oakwood Avenue will be open this season. The last swimmers of the day were…dogs.

The West Hartford Dog Park Coalition held a fundraiser at the pool today to help raise funds and awareness for a West Hartford dog park. And, of course, to let dogs just be dogs.
