West Hartford Voters Say TV & Radio Ads Influential in Primary Decisions

For the first time in decades, the Governor and Lietuenant Governor’s chairs, a US Senate seat, and the offices of Attorney General, Secretary of the State, and Comptroller are all wide open, making this a critical election season. One might assume, based on this, that voters would need more than a well-produced tv ad in order to pull the lever for a candidate, but this time, they don’t.

Republicans Nominate Bloomfield Councilman Joseph Merritt for State Senate

Area Republicans nominated Bloomfield Councilman Joseph Merritt to run for the 5th District Senate Seat being vacated by Jonathan Harris. Merritt will face off against Democrat Beth Bye in the November 2nd election.

Harris Comes Up Short at Democratic Convention, Plans Primary

State Sen. Jonathan Harris of West Hartford, Conn., lost his bid Saturday for the Democratic nomination for Secretary of the State, but says he plans to challenge nominee Denise Merrill of Mansfield, the former state House Majority Leader.

Rep. Bye Exploring Run for State Senate

Senator Christopher Dodd’s decision to not seek re-election set a political shuffle in motion. State Senator Jonathan Harris announced that he is seeking the office of Secretary of the State now that current Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz is seeking the office of Attorney General.

Should Harris continue his run, he won’t seek re-election. Representative Beth Bye is the first candidate to announce an interest in running for Harris’ seat.
