“The Direct” Plays One Final Encore

One of West Hartford’s most popular high school bands, The Direct, played their last show on Sunday.

Hall High School seniors Chris Sicilian, Sam Cantor, Andrew Stocker, and Dan Knishkowy have played together for the last five years. They gathered at Cantor’s home Sunday to put on one final encore show before they each go their separate ways following their graduation.

Unfortunately some technical difficulties prevented us from including an interview with the band. We have posted a band produced YouTube video below that documents their recently recorded farewell album.

Hall High Theater Students Heading to Scotland – 5/15/09

Extended content is available for this story: Click here to view the full, uncut interview with Hall High School teacher Sean Harris.

The Hall High School theater department recently learned they have been chosen to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2010. The Hall students will be performing alongside other high schools representing the American High School Theater Arts Festival booth in Scotland.

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is the world’s largest arts festival and is open to anyone wanting to perform. The three week festival held every August sees more than 1,800 dancers, musicians and actors from around the world. The American High School Theater Festival is part of a larger educational travel company called World Strides.

The cost for each student is more that $5000. There are currently 140 students in the theater arts department. Theater Director Sean Harris hopes to take all students wishing to go. The department will begin raising funds this summer.

We’ll post information on upcoming fundraisers on our news blog.
