Governor Rell Signs Bi-Partisan Jobs Bill

Governor Rell and legislative leaders this week visited Pegasus Manufacturing in Middletown – one of the few manufacturing companies left in Connecticut – to sign a comprehensive jobs bill designed to spark small business growth and to give hope to the unemployed. The governor smiled as she signed the bipartisan bill during a ceremony at Pegasus, which is a contract manufacturer for precision tube bending, machining and gearing with 65 employees.

University of Hartford to Offer Free Workshops for Job Seekers

The University of Hartford’s Center for Professional Development is hosting a series of free workshops to help adults with their job searches. Experienced career counselors will teach participants how to identify the job they want and the strategies to get hired. The series includes:

Writing a Resume That Gets Noticed – Tuesday, March 9
Ron Clinton, a career counselor at the Center for Professional Development, will talk about various resume formats that can be used to present information and qualifications, how to write an effective resume, and ways to make a resume stand out.

Strategies for Successful Interviewing –Tuesday, March 23
Cathy McCloud, a career counselor at the Center, will discuss how to conduct an effective interview, how to respond to interview questions, and types of questions to ask a potential employer.

Tips for Making a Career Change –Tuesday, April 6
Eleta Jones, Ph.D., LPC, associate director at the Center, will provide tips and resources on how to decide what new job or career to pursue.

Pre-registration is requested for each workshop, although walk-ins are welcome. To register, call the University’s Center for Professional Development at 860.768.5619.

All three workshops will be held at the Center for Professional Development located at 50 Elizabeth Street in Hartford on the University of Hartford’s Asylum Avenue Campus.
